Description
The 2017 & newer Duramax L5P and the related L5D are a huge improvement over LML, LGH and earlier generation Duramax applications. However, service information is even worse! It’s not so much ‘terrible’ as ‘nonexistent’. This creates unique challenges for diesels because the aftertreatment systems cannot work if there are even subtle base engine or engine management faults, so the path from ‘code’ to ‘cause’ is very fuzzy. The L5P also signaled a shift from Bosch to DENSO fuel systems, the addition of a brushless low pressure pump, the move to an electronically-controlled turbocharger, and many more changes. These are significant engine management differences that just aren’t explained. To help you out, we’ve collected the specific ways that these new systems fail and offer lots of known good data and field-proven test procedures to diagnose them. Specifically, attendees will be able to:
- Sort through the EGR, DPF, DOC & SCR faults and determine the root cause, even if it’s a breathing or fueling fault or other ‘upstream’ issue
- Locate boosted duct leaks and measurement fault, including the ‘leak PID’ and MAP clogging issues
- Understand how sensor faults cause misleading injector timing and volume codes
- Identify erratically named Duramax L5P sensors
- Determine hard-start and no-start root causes
- Apply post-repair relearns and system tests
The seminar will help you make a better possible cause list and show you simple tests to trim that list without taking too much apart. We’ve also created graphics that are missing from service information for the intake, fuel and emissions systems that show the ‘real’ component locations and flow through systems. This seminar is what you need to win against these diesels.
