What this webinar is about...
Hybrid Part 1: Hybrid Drive Variations & Battery Diagnostics
This webinar is part 1 of a 2-part series, and covers battery diagnostics tools and tests that are far simpler than whatever you get from the manufacturer. In the best cases, service information only leads to a long flow chart, but you’re often completely on your own. That’s fine with us, because there are only so many ways to configure and monitor a hybrid battery pack, so there are many universal principles. This webinar has examples from many manufacturers, but is not manufacturer-specific, so techniques may be applied to whatever shows up in your shop.
This webinar opens with a discussion of hybrid-specific tools, safety equipment, and disabling procedures which are necessary for safe diagnosis and replacement of batteries. But rest assure, most of the discussion is about the various stress tests that you can try. Not all battery failures are the same, so it pays to have a few different tricks to flush out a bad one.
Optional Webinar Manual:
ATG’s Hybrid Systems Diagnostics manual is available with this webinar at a discounted price, and can be used for both part 1 and 2 of this webinar series. The manual includes everything you need to follow along with the presentation and discussion. Additionally, it’s a great resource back in the shop, and includes dozens of known good and faulty Scan Tool and Lab Scope captures. The biggest struggle is hybrid diagnostics is PID interpretation, so the manual contains many examples and discussions about what various status, voltage, and current PIDs really mean. This information is missing from service information, including flow charts and, ironically, PID definition tables, so the manual will help unscramble a lot of the frustration.
