Ford Part 1: Fuel System Diagnostics & FDRS Scan Tool Introduction
Part 1 of this Ford webinar series covers the Introduction & Fuel Systems sections of our Engine Drivability & Code Diagnostics manual, including some of the great features of the latest Ford Scan Tool, the FDRS, an overview of Ford’s Start/Stop systems, and in-depth coverage of the diagnostic processes needed for Ford’s various fuel systems, including:
- High level Fuel Trim decision-making tables for both MAP and MAF systems
- Fuel Trim, including Equivalence Ratios and Rear Fuel Trim
- Low pressure fuel delivery systems
- Port injection & Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI)
- Combination port/GDI systems, including dedicated Fuel Trim PIDs
We’ve found that starting with the tables is the fastest way to diagnose any fuel-related concern or Fuel Trim code. After all, an incorrect amount of fuel could just as well be a breathing fault or a fault in any number of sensors or actuators. The ATG tables have helped thousands of techs trim the possible cause list and stay on track.
Optional Webinar Manual:
Parts 1 & 2 of this Ford webinar are based on ATG’s 386-page Ford Engine Drivability & Code Diagnostics manual, and contains many Scan Tool and Lab Scope captures to demonstrate the diagnostic methods and cases in the webinar. The manual makes a great reference back in the shop, since it gives you a variety of diagnostic options to choose from for each system when the next Ford rolls into the shop.
